Selection Principals Guidelines
2. Experience – You may also be or not be selected on your experience, as this is vital to cope with racing in rough sea conditions, and also calm race conditions if more on the novice side.
3. Strength – Strength is a vital part of rowing in a crew, your strength is important to put weight on the catch of the stroke, and then the drive.
4. Power to weight ratio – Is your body weight compared with your power that you can place on the stroke. For example Strength:70kg.
5. Commitment – You may also be or not be picked based on your commitment to racing and training, s this is vital for a crew to be successful, so on occasions a more committed rower will be picked over a non committed rower.
6. Stamina – Stamina is vital for rowing for a prolonged period of time, as in a race period, you will be expected to row 100% for up to 25 minutes. The way to achieve stamina is to do long distance rowing on the water and off the water on a rowing machine.
7. Fitness – Fitness is the ability to carry out day to day tasks with out being easily fatigued. For selection we expect you to be able to do more than this, and be able to maintain a strong strength of stroke for a prolonged period of time.
8. Attitude – Your attitude towards rowing and other rowers is important for team spirit, so a good positive attitude is required at all times.
