Throughout the season I am going to try and get someone to write a review of an event they have been to for that week. It could include anything from results, racing, beach banter or what the cakes were like.
Falmouth - 14/6/08
Zennor - 31/5/08
Perfect conditions, the best boats and kit, no excuses and it was a good day for the club. Maybe the opposition wasn't of the highest calibre, but five trophies is no mean feat. Gary put himself in contention for the Broken pin award by heading for Penzance instead of Newlyn Harbour in the Mens A race. Apart from that everybody did rearly well, it will be much more of a test once we get to the Tribute Series but we should eb at full strenghth and who knows what might happen. The event was well organised though and if you waited right to the end there was free cake.

Roseland - 24/5/08
Well, that was a strange one. The weather and sea conditions were just right, plenty of gigs but not too many and Mount's Bay well represented. The Mens A in the first heat, finishing comfortably last without doing themselves justice really, and the being placed 10th because of disqualifications
The Ladies A coming a respectable 3rd and the C crew given 8th. In fact on paper the Mount' Bay results don't look bad at all, the Mens B 10th in the A race despite being a few lengths behind on the start. The Juniors did really well, 2nd, if they can put out consistent crews , I'm sure they can go to their Championships with some confidence. What about those Ladies Vets (3rd in the world they won't let you forget) if they keep going the way they did at Roseland it will be well worth the trip to Saltash for the Mixed and Vets Championships. Everyone else did at least okay, it's a pity that the Mixed crew didn't quite catch Caradon never mind there will be anther chance.
I didn't have a burger or stay for a drink so I can't report on that aspect, but it is good to see the Mini-bus being used and obviously a massive thanks to Ian for organising and driving it. Altogether a good but strange event in an idealic location, onward to Sandy Cove.

Charlestown - 17/5/08
After the excitement of the World Championships, the Gig season continued on Saturday at Charlestown.
Mount's Bay were one of 15 clubs invited, and despite being without many rowers did well in all of the races held.
Conditions at sea were calm but airless and the rain was on and of all afternoon,
In the first race, the Ladies A, the Mount's Bay crew included 16 year old Samantha Dennis, they were against a strong local crew, and did well to finish second. Again the Ladies B crew that was put out had an unfamiliar look about it, but those new to the crew rowed so well that they too finished second. The Men's A had a very close and hard fought battle with Par Bay, and on this occasion were 2nd but an excellent performance nonetheless. The Men's B another tough section and Mount's Bay were in the thick of the action. They finished third, however the signs for the rest of the season are promising.
For the U16's crew it was their first race together and after some high quality rowing were third. Youngsters with plenty of potential for the future. At the end of the afternoon there was a race for mixed crews in which Mount's Bay were 3rd.
Another good day club which moves on to St Mawes next Saturday.

Scilly - 2-5/5/08 - awaiting a review
Mount's Bay - 5/4/08
On a sunny day at Marazion we hosted the first event of the season where clubs from all over Cornwall and Devon came down to race.
This was the first event of the season for most clubs with the first race being the Men's A, where our crew showed there form by winning the race very convincingly. It was then the turn of the Men's B crews, and our crew showed there form by coming 3rd but with crews infront of them with A rowers in. The Ladies then took to the water with the Ladies A coming a very strong 2nd and the Ladies B competing in the same race due to the vast numbers of ladies, they came 9th in the boat Gwineas very kindly lent to us by Goran. The Ladies C then took to the water in the Ladies B race, and had a very good race with the Ladies C finishing 9th beating a number of B crews. The juniors weren't very well prepared for our event with no oppertunity for training before due to adverse weather conditions so with a mixed crew with Pendeen came 5th. The mixed and vets then were out and also had very convincing results.
The catering and stalls arranged in the shed were brilliant as always, and thanks to all the other helpers at our event: Catering, Tech, umpiring, being a Goaffer!, un-loading Gigs, laying out the course and to the Marazion Sailing Club for the use of the IRB and The Mount for use of two mount boats.
