Mount’s Bay Pilot Gig Club

2008 Tribute Series Champions

Newsletter October 2008

I know, I know, I’ve been slack this year writing a newsletter but hopefully everyone’s been keeping up to date by using the website www.mountsbaygigclub.com.

MOUNT'S BAY PILOT GIG CLUB DIARY DATES

Tuesday 18th November 2008 – AGM at the Queens Hotel, 7:30pm start.
All members are requested to attend to deal with the running of the club. IT’S YOUR CLUB! Things just don’t happen by magic, your support is needed. Have a think about how you think the club could be improved and bring your comments. The new committee will be elected on the night as well as other posts which are vitally important to the smooth running of the club, including press officer, membership secretary, equipment officer, fundraising officer, CPGA representative, junior coach, health and safety officer, grants officer, schools liaison officer, welfare officer, disability officer, newsletter officer, sailing secretary, rowing secretary. Rowing secretary, newsletter officer, schools liaison officer, sailing secretary and possibly press officer are all posts which we definitely need new volunteers for.

Sunday 23rd November 2008 - Quiz Night
There is a quiz night at the Godolphin arms for fundraising, contact Kate for more details. Come along to test your brain and raise some money for the club.

Friday 23rd January 2008 - Annual Club Dinner and Awards Night
This will be at the Godolphin arms. It will be a two course meal of a carvery and a sweet.
Tickets will cost £15 and are available to buy from Tracy. You must purchase a ticket in advance, you will not be able to pay on the night.

A NOTE FROM YOUR CAPTAINS:

We will be doing our very best this year to run the two sections as smoothly and as fairly as possible. It is a huge task but we embrace it, however we cannot please everybody if we don’t know what you, the membership want! Communication is key, both ways. So please give us feedback so we know how best to run the club! If you feel like you can’t approach James or Charlotte then speak to one of the selection committee, Vicky or Ele for the ladies and Martyn and Andy for the men, or submit something anonymously.

SO WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW?

Training has started for the men’s and ladies’ sections, please contact your captains for more details. Taran is currently on the Isles Of Scilly being repaired, we are not sure when she is due back, but hopefully once she’s been repaired and painted she’ll be looking and rowing fabulous! We will be getting the name repainted in the same style as Kensa. Kensa needs some attention this winter, it has been decided that the two A crews that rowed at Newquay this year will be responsible for sanding, Kate and James will be co-ordinating that in conjunction with Blewey. The Newquay B crews will be responsible for Taran when she returns. The C crews and anyone else will be asked to undertake any work on oars or any other bits and pieces which come up.

Garage Gym - For those of you who don't yet know, we now have the use of the garage at the sailing club end of the car park. All of our gym equipment is in there and is free for anyone to use. The gym is currently booked out by the juniors on a Monday evening, the men on a Wednesday and Friday evening and by the ladies on a Tuesday and Thursday evening. The gym contains, two rowing machines with slides, weights, boxing equipment, gym balls, mats, skipping rope, medicine ball and is also a good base to go for a run around Marazion from! Also if anyone has a CD player and radio they can donate to the garage gym it would be greatly appreciated.

Spade's gym - It's actually called Cornwall Therapy and Fitness and is based at Hayle Secondary School. To get there just drive in the school gates and turn left into the car park and you will see the gym there on your left. It is open from 4pm to 9pm on weekdays and from 10am to 3pm (I think) on Saturdays and Sundays. There is a special rate for gig club members £2 per session or £10 per month for as many sessions as you want.

That’s it for now...

See you at the A.G.M!
